Freedman
(1944 - 1972)
He was 28 when he died. He left behind parents and a sister.
He was born in Poland and immigrated to Israel in 1960 with his family, who were Holocaust survivors.
He began his sports path as a gymnast, but weightlifting fascinated him more.
He worked as a physical education teacher, and he was a graduate of the Wingate Institute. He was active in the "Hapoel Kiryat Haim" Association and, for 7 years, he was Israel's featherweight champion.
In 1969, he was ranked seventh in the world championships in Warsaw. In the 1971 Manila Games, he was ranked third, and at the Munich Olympics, he finished in 12th place, after breaking three Israeli records and setting a fourth record.
He was buried in Haifa.
