MARK SLAVIN
(1954 – 1972)
He was 18 when he died. He left behind parents, a brother and a sister.
He was born in the Soviet Union, and his wrestling achievements (in the up to 74 kg category) were considerable from an early age.
In February 1972, he was Russia's youth champion in the Greco-Roman style, and he was even invited to take part in the Olympic team at large.
He studied at the Minsk Physical Training Institute. His teachers and friends tried to prevent him from immigrating to Israel, but he did not give up.
In May 1972, he immigrated to Israel with his family and went to live in Bnei Brak. He studied Hebrew at the Shefaim Ulpan and joined the "Hapoel Tel Aviv" wrestling team. Following a special test, he was able to join the Munich delegation, for the first and last Olympics of his life.
He was buried in Kiryat Shaul.
